Varian Offering Science-Based Education Programs for the Community of Interventional Radiologists

Varian’s Interventional Solutions business is more than four years into building a best-in-class multi-faceted education program for the worldwide community of interventional radiologists. “We are committed to meeting the expressed needs of our customers for science-based education in technique and procedure, with top leaders in the field from around the world,” said Frank Facchini, MD, FSIR, president of Varian Interventional Solutions, himself a highly respected, board-certified interventional radiologist with extensive clinical and industry experience.

“Varian has now differentiated itself with unique, in-person opportunities that are truly clinical and scientific in nature,” added Corey Craig, Global Director of Medical Education. She attributes success to the faculty and physicians with whom Varian works. "We have strong relationships with key opinion leaders around the world who help create and deliver unique and valuable education for interventional radiologists.”

Varian’s broad and expanding range of interventional medical education offerings represent a balance of large regional events and more intimate local hands-on experiences. Programs are tailored for physician training at all points in their careers, i.e., for residents and early-career IRs to advanced users.

For example, a highlight of the Spring of 2024 will be a pair of Advanced Cryoablation Summits designed for physicians interested in expanding their techniques into new indications to reach a greater population of patients. Registration for the April event in Nashville, Tennessee opened this month. The March Summit in Athens, Greece, is fully enrolled and waitlisted, but you can still register for the one in Nashville: US Advanced Cryoablation Summit Registration.

In addition, Varian will continue to develop its successful program of reference sites and workshops in Europe, where small groups of four IRs can observe and engage in specific procedures, discuss indications and techniques, and form lasting supportive relationships with colleagues. Reference sites are primary education partners with Varian. Workshops rotate and evolve based on needs expressed by Varian customers.

Meeting the demand for IR education is especially challenging in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, where needs vary greatly depending on the region, or whether simple or complex techniques are in use, observed Tara Djanani, who is heading up medical education for Varian Interventional Solutions in Europe and the Middle East. In 2023, workshops and master classes in cryoablation and embolization were conducted in many countries, spanning from Vietnam to the Netherlands to the United States.
