Varian Medical Systems to Exhibit the Latest X-Ray Image Detectors, X-Ray Tubes, and Cancer Treatment Technologies at RSNA This Year

CHICAGO, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSNA Booth # 6221 -- Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE: VAR) will exhibit its X-ray tubes and flat-panel digital detectors for filmless X-ray imaging in a new, expanded booth at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting in Chicago from November 30 -- December 4, 2008. Varian will also showcase its leading cancer treatment technologies, and introduce a powerful new oncology picture archiving and communication system (PACS) product for supporting image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery.

PAXSCAN DIGITAL X-RAY IMAGE DETECTORS

Varian will exhibit its new PaxScan® flat panels for digital radiography, together with its full line of detectors for filmless imaging. PaxScan products on display at RSNA:

-- The 4336R, a 14 x 17 inch detector designed to replace standard film cassettes used in radiographic applications, is intended for use in mobile and multi-bucky imaging systems.

-- The 4343R, Varian's largest panel at 17 x 17 inches, is designed for permanent mounting in radiographic tables or wall stands, or for any application that requires a large field of view.

-- The 1313, Varian's smallest panel at 5 x 5 inches, is designed for use in dental and orthopedic imaging and cone-beam CT systems.

Specialized PaxScan panels, originally developed to enable high-resolution 3-D cone-beam CT imaging in Varian's systems for image-guided radiotherapy, have now been incorporated into medical diagnostic imaging systems made by other manufacturers. Varian's PaxScan panels are also used for surgery, angiography, cardiac catheterizetion, gastrointestinal imaging, general radiography, dental imaging, and veterinary medicine, as well as in industrial systems for non-destructive testing.

X-RAY TUBES

Varian will also exhibit its X-ray tubes for medical and industrial imaging. Varian Interay, a wholly-owned subsidiary that offers medical X-ray tubes "on demand" for the service and assembler markets, will display a wide range of X-ray tubes, including new replacements for Siemens, Philips, and GE imaging systems.

CANCER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES

At RSNA, Varian is introducing OncoView™, a specialized PACS product for viewing, managing and storing images and data needed for every phase of cancer treatment. "OncoView is an important addition to our product offerings for cancer clinics offering advanced forms of image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery," said Karla Knott, senior director of marketing for Varian's Oncology Systems business. "It integrates the viewing, managing, storing, and archiving of oncology images and data, supporting workflow specific to oncology at every phase of cancer treatment, from initial diagnosis to treatment response, and on to survivorship."

In addition, Varian will showcase a range of cancer treatment technologies, as well as the company's software solutions for information management and radiation therapy treatment planning.

A NEW EXHIBIT

"Visitors to our new, expanded booth will be able to see the full spectrum of Varian products and technology," said Elaine Fairless, corporate marketing and communications manager. In addition to product displays, the new two-story booth includes expanded areas for meeting with customers.
