PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--Jan. 19, 2001--Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE:VAR) today announced the launch of an on-line store for fast, easy, and convenient access to the company's full line of medical X-ray tubes. The new website, at http://sales.varian.com, enables Varian customers to place orders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"This new e-commerce website dovetails with our overall strategy of offering customers the most efficient and streamlined services possible," said Robert Kluge, president of Varian's X-Ray Products business. "Early customer reaction has been positive."
"Our customers are all over the world," said Robert Hibdon, vice president of Varian's X-Ray Products business. "In the past, because of the time differences, customers in Asia might have needed three days to finalize a purchase via telephone or even e-mail. Now they can go to www.varian.com, find the tube that they need, order it, and see when it shipped before scheduling a service person to install it. And our staff is freed from spending time on the phone telling people when a shipment left, or if it arrived, or who signed for it."
Now Varian's customers can register for the online service and then select products, place orders through corporate purchasing accounts, and check on order status. They can also place items into a personalized "Favorites" category that further streamlines the process. The site offers customers Varian's full line of over 400 medical X-ray tubes and X-ray system accessories (air circulators, heat exchangers, trunnion rings).
Varian Medical Systems is a world leader in X-ray tubes for CT scanners, mammography, and other medical imaging systems. The company estimates Varian products now make more than 1.4 billion CT scans and 770 million diagnostic films annually, or some 2.2 billion diagnostic medical exposures a year.
