Maureen 'Mo' Zilly Joins the Varian Medical Systems Government Affairs Team as Director, Federal Affairs

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Varian Medical Systems , a leading manufacturer of radiotherapy and radiosurgical devices and software for cancer treatment and X-ray imaging, announces the appointment of Maureen "Mo" Zilly to the newly-created position of director, federal affairs, at the company's recently established government affairs office in Washington, DC.

Zilly, who has worked on Capitol Hill for nearly six years, was the legislative director for Congressman John Shimkus (R-IL). During her tenure with the Congressman, she worked closely with the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and special responsibility for healthcare issues.

More recently, she served as the director of government relations for the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA), a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, where she focused on Medicare and FDA issues.

"Mo is extremely knowledgeable about the healthcare issues facing Varian in the upcoming Congress," said Andy Whitman, Varian's vice president, government affairs. "She will be a great asset as we seek to contribute to public policy discussions involving the future of healthcare, and particularly the fight against cancer, which is a major focus of our company."

Zilly holds a BS degree in International, Resource, and Consumer Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She assumed her new position on November 24.
