New Name, Same Mission: A World Without Fear of Cancer
- From August 18, 2025, Varian will continue its work under the name Siemens Healthineers.
- Siemens Healthineers acquired Varian Medical Systems in 2021.
- Since then, Varian Medical Systems Finland Oy and Siemens Healthcare Oy, have operated independently while preparing for integration.
- The aim of the acquisition is to provide a more comprehensive approach to entire cancer care continuum – from screening to survivorship.
“Big innovations continue to come from Helsinki”
At Töölönlahti Bay, Helsinki, the new Siemens Healthineers sign now greets passers-by, as well as staff entering the Aallon Huippu office. For Kari Toimela, the Managing Director of Varian Medical Systems Finland Oy, the change of logo is a symbol of setting into action as a joint force and thus a new kind of hope for those fighting cancer.
“This is not a farewell to Varian – the Varian name will live on as a product family name. Moreover, we are still the same team with the same values and mission. The difference is that now we have a solid opportunity to leverage the full scale of our combined strengths to benefit customers and cancer patients,” Toimela says.

Varian is entering this new era with a corporate culture and operating model that creates new opportunities – the results of purposeful and collaborative work by management and staff. Among the leadership of Siemens Healthineers’ 73,000-strong global organization, this is highly appreciated and supported.
“Big innovations come from Helsinki. It’s a concrete testament to the kind of innovation-driven organization, workflow, and culture we have built here in Finland. We are encouraged to continue being pioneers and lead the way, and this is what we intend to do,” Toimela emphasizes.
Growing stronger together – under a one roof
The integration of the two Finnish organizations together is well under way. The management of both organizations have taken a deliberate approach to bringing the organizations together and actively seek opportunities to establish collaboration.
“While our focus is strongly on software development, Siemens Healthineers have exceptional customer relations in Finland, the Baltics, and the Nordics. I believe this combination will lead us to improve our products and achieve an entirely new level of innovation,” Toimela says.

This is not an opportunity to be missed. Working side by side from screening to survivorship also requires new forums and co-operative models – a shared access interface. Therefore, the next concrete step is to gather the entire Finnish-based staff to the Aallon Huippu office to work as one.
Kari Toimela sees having both organizations in the same office as a recipe for synergy and birthing innovations. The aim is to help make customers’ work easier and more efficient by providing products and software that are easier to use and accelerating the introduction of AI and automation.
“Now we have the unique strengths of both organizations complementing each other and set up to work as one. Everything comes back to our mission. Globally, we want to, and can, democratize access to cancer care and ultimately create a world without fear of cancer,” Toimela emphasizes.
