Course Description +
Application sent to CAMPEP for 61.75 hrs. of MPCEC. This course is restricted to Varian Medical Systems EXTERNAL customers only. Internal VMS employees must register for internal service classes. For questions or concerns, please send an email to [email protected] . It is the intent to acquaint and familiarize the student with the general accelerator function, operation and routine support. The course will give a basic technical understanding of machine concepts and day- to-day maintenance while providing a working terminology for communication with service personnel.

Application sent to CAMPEP for 61.75 hrs. of MPCEC. Beginning in November 2016, this course will be a blended course covering the Small Vault Configuration and Long Frame Configuration. This course covers theory of operation, detailed system theory of modulator, RF system, gun system, embedded computer control system, dosimetry systems, vacuum system and imaging systems, electro mechanic assemblies, networking and system concept trouble shooting & servicing. The labs cover beam tuning, couch bearing replacement, imaging calibration and initializations, using MLC diagnostic tools and PMI.

The Advanced Radiotherapy Clinical School involves case-based learning with expert clinicians from some of the leading cancer centers in the country. This multi- day course provides individuals and teams with the clinical knowledge needed to implement advanced treatment modalities, covering a range of topics disease site by disease site. From helping you plan for special procedures like hypofractionation and/or deep inspiration breath-hold: from determining and executing strategies for motion management to quality assurance for complex radiosurgery cases, the course is designed to enable implementation of these and other advanced approaches. Discussions cover forward-looking ways of approaching treatment, including SRS, SBRT, and adaptive radiotherapy, with a focus on imaging, choice of protocol, positioning and immobilization, contouring, treatment planning, and treatment delivery, drawing extensively on illustrative clinical case studies. This course is ideal for teams of clinicians who work together to plan and deliver radiotherapy, and it can also greatly benefit individual radiation oncologists, medical physicists and dosimetrists.

The Varian Advanced Clinical School provides clinical knowledge relevant to the modern radiation oncology practice. With 6 disease sites covered over a 3-day period, a broad range of experience and expertise is shared with the course attendees. The faculty is comprised of leading radiation oncologists and medical physicists from a variety of prominent institutions nationwide. The case-based course focuses on advanced practical applications taught through physician and physicist didactics and hands-on demonstrations. Disease sites covered are: CNS, H&N, Breast, Lung, GI and GU. The clinical school also covers advanced techniques such as SRS, SBRT, motion management, adaptive therapy and knowledge-based treatment planning, as well as clinical workflow development and advanced imaging implementation. Multiple quantities of this course may need to be purchased as each attendee requires a tuition. Attending as a multidisciplinary group is ideal for this course, as implementing new technology is most successful when all specialties are involved in the process. The intended audience is radiation oncologists and medical physicists. However, medical dosimetrists will also gain value from attending the course, but treatment planning is not explicitly covered. For comprehensive training in treatment planning please refer to EC103.  NOTE: Velocity experience is recommended prior to attending this course.
