Clinical Observation Training for Physicists is offered to medical physicists, who intend to commission or operate a proton therapy center. After one week, the physicists attendees will have high-level overview of proton therapy facility operations and start-up, having shadowed core areas of the facility, such as quality assurance, machine operation, detector use, radiation therapy, treatment planning and workflow. The observational training is structured as a job shadowing program with access to key members of the proton therapy facility for instruction, shadowing and Q&A. The goal of the school is to provide an intensive hands-on multi-day program with practical application for physicians and medical physicists who are venturing into proton therapy with ProBeam. Participants in the course will gain clinical and technical/scientific understanding in proton therapy and treatment techniques using a combination of academic coursework and in-clinic observation. The Physics section of this program is designed to last 6 days with the physician portion lasting 3 days overlapping within the program. It is intended that the course be attended by Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists. OSU403 OSU Clinical Application of OSMS (SGRT) Clinical School

This hands on OSMS class will include in-class didactic sessions and hands on practice labs on our non-clinical TrueBeam Lab and our Oncology Information System/Treatment Planning System Lab, coupled with observation of treatments and setups using OSMS. Upon completion of this class, students should have an in-depth understanding of utilizing OSMS for patient setups and intrafraction motion tracking for treatment delivery on a TrueBeam. Topics covered will include: Review of commissioning and deployment of OSMS, clinical use cases, developing site specific strategies for OSMS use. Laboratory and patient observations will be integrated into the curriculum. The physicists in the audience will have a pull-out session to review OSMS commissioning for SRS use.

Course content is taught by a multi-disciplinary team from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, including subspecialty surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical physicists. This team installed the first clinical TrueBeam STx in the world and has extensive experience with RapidArc and High Intensity Mode beams. The course content can be individually focused on specific sites (e.g. neuro or thoracic), depending upon the interests of those enrolled. The course is a complete “how to” with didactic and laboratory experiences for advanced therapies with TrueBeam including: Commissioning and QA, 4D simulation, Respiratory motion management, Triggered imaging, RapidArc Radiosurgery, High Intensity Mode (flattening filter free @2400 MU/min), Clinical implementation of advanced procedures in CNS, H/N, lung, liver, spine, and prostate, Navigation bronchoscopy for fiducial placement. The course includes laboratory experiences that mimic the clinical process, including mock tumor board, contouring, and treatment planning. This program includes up to 4 people onsite depending on the needs with a radiation oncologist, medical physicist, medical dosimetrist and radiation therapist. The onsite support will be provided over a 2 week period. Recommendation is to have support one week before go-live of treating patients and then the second week of support being provided during the week of go-live. This item can only be purchased as supplemental to the UPENN Proton Comprehensive Clinical Training and not on its own. These additional weeks provide for more time spent in the clinic by professionals and or allows for a broader range of individuals to participate in this learning.
