AR101 Optimizing workflow - Improving Quality and Safety

This course is presented in collaboration with the TreatSafely Organization and is designed to increase knowledge and awareness of Radiation Oncology safety through implementation of workflow features in ARIA v13.6. The knowledge and skills developed in the course are applied in the context of ARIA v13.6 Course topics include Process Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, and Quality, as well as Departmental Culture and Human Factors to drive efficiencies and safety. Modules are configured around ARIA workflow and are designed to train the customer to become proficient in the development of advanced workflow through the implementation of Care Paths, Checklists, and Encounters. This class is most beneficial for customers who have a basic knowledge of ARIA v13.6 and who wish to enhance their knowledge through workflow functionalities of ARIA. This course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of the new reporting features in ARIA, also known as AURA (ARIA Unified Reporting Application), and the use of the reporting tool provided with the system. Microsoft Report Builder is taught as the reporting tool for creating and editing reports. The course is presented as a series of exercises in a workshop format and is appropriate for ARIA version 13.6. The intended audience includes database analysts and clinical personnel with an interest in generating reports

This course is designed for those who help administer and service users and computers in an ARIA system. In this course we review all the software components of an oncology information system including the Clinac and TrueBeam Console, the 4D Treat workstation, the ARIA client applications and the ARIA Database Server. We focus on troubleshooting all aspects of the Varian software in the radiation therapy department. Specifically, we install, configure, break, fix, and use the ARIA software applications. This course is designed to develop the student as a capable first line of defense for problems and difficulties facing the clinical user. A student completing this course will have greater confidence in servicing the components that comprise the ARIA

CL101 On Board Imaging for Therapists

The course provides the initial training for Therapists responsible for operating the OBI system. It provides an overview of how the OBI system communicates with the Clinac, 4DITC, and the record and verification system (ARIA). The OBI course will also provide hands-on training on how to use the OBI system, basic morning QA procedures, how to acquire KV and MV images, how to perform a marker match utilizing 3D image sets from Eclipse, how to utilize the RPM software with the OBI system, and Cone Beam CT (CBCT). PLEASE NOTE: Physicists responsible for the commissioning and configuration of OBI should attend CL201 – On Board Imaging for Physicists.

VARIAN MEDICAL SYSTEMS HAS APPLIED TO CAMPEP FOR THE APPROVAL OF THIS ACTIVITY FOR 27.25 MPCEC HOURS REQUESTED FOR APPROVAL. The On-Board Imaging (OBI) Implementation course provides the initial training for the individual who is responsible for the implementation and the departmental training of the OBI system. This four and a half day task-based OBI course is designed to provide customers hands-on experience with the following: OBI system overview, OBI calibrations, basic OBI maintenance and QA, Plan preparation for use with OBI, Clinical functionality using kV/kV and MV/kV matching, Marker Match workspace, introduction to using Respiratory Gating with the OBI, CBCT clinical functionality and calibrations, and Third party software use with the OBI. PLEASE NOTE: This course does not provide full training on Respiratory Gating (for that, see CL222).

VARIAN MEDICAL SYSTEMS HAS APPLIED TO CAMPEP FOR THE APPROVAL OF THIS ACTIVITY FOR 12 MPCEC HOURS REQUESTED FOR APPROVAL. The goal of this course is to provide participants the principles and practice of respiratory gating in radiation oncology for clinical implementation. The Respiratory Gating course will cover the following topics: rationale for respiratory gating, clinical application of respiratory gating, general overview of respiratory-gated CT simulation, and respiratory-gated treatment delivery. 4D planning functionality in Eclipse is also demonstrated. The course also covers QA procedures for Respiratory gating consistency/functionality. This course provides an overview of RPM system for Clinac, Respiratory Gating for TrueBeam and RGSC for CT Scanners. Necessary administrations and calibrations are covered for all three systems.

THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO BE TAKEN BY AN EXPERIENCED ECLIPSE USER. The course covers the detailed use of Inverse Plan Optimizers within Eclipse for the creation of both IMRT and RapidArc plans. During this course, the student will work through clinically relevant examples such as prostate, head and neck and metastatic spine cases, preparing them to create intensity modulated treatment plans back in the clinic. The course consists of lectures, instructor-led demonstrations, and individual hands-on exercises. This class is an operations only class designed for the personnel responsible of planning. It does not cover system and MLC Configuration, IMRT/RapidArc QA, or the physics and commissioning of any algorithms (see EC201 and EC202).

This course is designed for the experienced Eclipse user and covers several advanced planning techniques with hands on practice. We demonstrate: RapidArc Multiple Brain Mets Planning based on the University of Alabama’s technique; 4D planning from 4D Image Importation through Plan Evaluation using Plan Uncertainty; Hybrid Breast techniques using IMRT or RapidArc, as we will host an experienced guest speaker, reviewing their clinical unique advanced planning techniques and experience. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CHALLENGING ANONYMIZED CLINICAL CASES TO REVIEW and SHARE WITH YOUR PEERS. (We want this to be an interactive, collaborative peer to peer communication/engagement.) Cases could be presented with anonymized screenshots.

This course replicates the last day of EC102 and has been designed specifically for experienced Eclipse IMRT users who are new to RapidArc. It is also suitable for experienced RapidArc users changing from version 8.9 or earlier. It covers the detailed use of Progressive Resolution Optimizer within Eclipse for the creation of RapidArc plans only. The course consists of lectures, instructor-led demonstrations, and individual hands-on exercises. PLEASE NOTE: This course does not include instruction on basic Eclipse Operations (see EC101), IMRT planning (see EC102) or System/Algorithm Physics and Configuration (see EC201 and EC202).

VARIAN MEDICAL SYSTEMS HAS APPLIED TO CAMPEP FOR THE APPROVAL OF THIS ACTIVITY FOR 27.25 MPCEC HOURS REQUESTED FOR APPROVAL. This course provides training for the individual responsible for commissioning and administration of the Eclipse Treatment Planning System in a clinical, external beam radiation therapy department. The course focuses on the configuration of Eclipse dose calculation algorithms (AAA, AcurosXB, and eMC), including demonstration of model configuration and discussion of beam data requirements. Administrative tasks including: OSP settings (user login, user rights), Radiation oncology settings (Linac definition, CT scanner definition, imaging templates, tolerance tables, isodose templates, dosimetrically equivalent machines) are also included in this course. Eclipse planning skills are practiced throughout. NOTE: This course does not cover the optimization algorithms, IMRT, VMAT or RapidArc (see EC202 Eclipse Commissioning II:IMRT and RapidArc).
