Trilogy® System

Trilogy® System

The power of three.

Clinicians trust in the power, versatility and reliability of the Trilogy system to deliver a wide range of cancer treatments each day in every corner of the world. With the capacity to shorten patient treatment times, minimize damage to healthy tissues and allow many types of patients to be treated on a single machine, Trilogy has become an established platform for advanced radiotherapy. As new technologies become available and clinics grow, Trilogy stands ready to be upgraded and augmented. With Trilogy, there is no compromising reliability for versatility, or potency for precision. Trilogy delivers it all.

Trilogy offers an all in one, reliable and complete treatment system. With thousands of Trilogy machines installed worldwide, clinicians can benefit from a broad range of external beam therapies, multiple dose rate options, flexible imaging options and compatibility with select external motion monitoring devices.

Quality Treatments

Built on the reliable C-series platform, Trilogy is a fully-loaded, turn-key treatment delivery system proven for high uptime rates. A robust radiotherapy machine, Trilogy is ready for a wide range of treatment modalities. Designed to treat large patient volumes using broad treatment techniques, Trilogy is capable of administering high dose rates resulting in shorter sessions and faster patient treatment times. Enabling patients to be repositioned quickly and accurately, Trilogy features a finely tuned beam isocenter for precise patient set up and imaging. With Varian’s robotic On-Board Imager® (OBI) on the Trilogy system, it provides rapid imaging so clinicians can see what they are treating with a high degree of confidence. The Trilogy system offers advanced motion management capabilities. Complete with Gated RapidArc and a new open motion management interface, these tools expand the options for treating moving tumors. During treatments, gated RapidArc utilizes the RPM system to monitor and adjust for tumor motion. Motion Management Interface (MMI) technology can also be used with third party companies to connect their devices to Varian accelerators for monitoring motion. This interface further demonstrates the open architecture design of the Trilogy system and provides support to third party companies to monitor tumor motion in real time. The strength of Trilogy may help yield treatment times that are shorter, making the experience more comfortable for the patient. Clinical benefits of the Trilogy system include:

  • Highest dose rate for shorter sessions.
  • Faster treatment times.
  • Tight isocenter alignments on all three axes for targeting the smallest lesions.
  • Rapid on-board imaging to reposition patients quickly and accurately.
  • Cone-Beam CT for fine tuning patient set ups with precise CT scans.

Complete treatment system

The versatile Trilogy system can provide Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and 3D conformal radiotherapy treatment options. Trilogy’s broad range of external beam therapies provide clinicians with the ability to deliver high-intensity mode beam (flattening filter free) and RapidArc radiotherapy treatment easily and effectively while minimizing dose to surrounding healthy tissue.

Trilogy has a host of sophisticated tools that harness advanced technology to expand options for treating moving tumors and to make target adjustments when necessary. With advanced motion management capabilities, Trilogy can continuously monitor patient breathing and compensate for tumor motion while quickly delivering dose during a continuous rotation around the patient. This development enables the use of RapidArc radiotherapy to target tumors with greater precision by turning the beam on and off in response to tumor motion.

The Trilogy system integrates well with Varian’s ARIA oncology information system and the Eclipse treatment planning system. Integrating ARIA and Eclipse can help reduce the data transfer software errors that can be made when treatment delivery, planning and information systems are not fully assimilated. Using Trilogy’s remote imaging and patient couch positioning can further enhance the effectiveness and ease of delivering treatment.

Trilogy is designed with the operator in mind so it is easy to use and includes a large number of automated processes and safety mechanisms. Trilogy supports a streamlined clinical environment designed to help save time and confusion. With a remote controlled OBI system, couch corrections and other innovative automations, Trilogy provides a logical working process for improved efficiency and safety. In a busy facility where therapists frequently rotate around the department, having access to familiar controls, user interfaces and hand pendants means less training and the ability to quickly transition through the treatment process.

A cost effective means of expanding the patient case mix and treatment modality, Trilogy is optimized for treating a wide range of radiotherapy and radiosurgery patients. Intended to raise the standard of care while lowering treatment costs, Trilogy is a reliable workhorse with advanced functionality. With robotic imaging arms, multi-treatment modalities, including Stereotactic Radiosurgery, there are few limits to the type of treatments clinics can deliver. Trilogy’s high dose rates, remote control features and adjustable couch are designed to improve patient comfort while potentially decreasing patient treatment times. As clinics expand, the versatility of treatments possible with the Trilogy system allows for clinics to effectively scale treatment options. The Trilogy system can be easily upgraded to match the needs of growing clinics. With versatility as its cornerstone, Trilogy includes an abundance of advanced features including:

  • A broad range of external beam therapies, including 3D CRT, IMRT, IGRT or SBRT/SRS using the Trilogy system
  • Multiple dose rate options of up to 1000MU/min for efficient SRS delivery
  • 2D and 3D KV image guidance for high quality imaging at low doses
  • Full 360° range of treatment delivery angles with positional couch angles
  • Stereotactic frame or frameless immobilization for patient positioning to treat any area of the body
  • Real-time Position Management™ (RPM) system for gating perfectly timed beam delivery with minimal margins
  • Gated RapidArc with advanced motion management and an open third-party interface
  • Portal Dosimetry IMRT treatment delivery verification
  • Dynamic high resolution MLC for exquisite beam sculpting

These functionalities are part of what makes the Trilogy system a leader in raising the standard of cancer care. Combining quality and customization in every Trilogy machine, clinicians can meet the specific needs of each patient and help ensure that future treatment advances are within reach.
