Electronic health records (EHRs) have become the standard for managing patient information. The HITECH portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides financial incentives to eligible United States healthcare providers who are "meaningful" users of information technology. The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology has defined a set of objectives and measures that will constitute meaningful use. In order to qualify for incentive payments, eligible providers must use healthcare IT products that meet the standards and certification criteria established by the ONC's Authorized Testing and Certification Bodies (ATCBs).
Varian Medical Systems ARIA® oncology information system (versions 11 MR5, 13.6 MR1 and 13.7), coupled with the Equicare Health Patient Portal for providing patients with secure web-based access to important portions of their medical records, were certified together to meet the federal requirements for Complete Ambulatory EHR.
