JUNCTION 2019 - tapahtumassa haetaan ratkaisua tosielämän haasteisiin

Varianin visiona on maailma ilman pelkoa syövästä. Junction 2019:ään eli yhteen maailman tunnetuimpaan hackathon-tapahtumaan. Viikonlopun aikana lahjakkaat tiimit ympäri maailmaa kokoontuvat etsimään teknologian avulla ratkaisuja yritysten eri ongelmiin.

Haastetta ratkomassa tulevaisuuden designerit, kehittäjät ja koodarit

Varianin pre-event-tapahtumaan on ilmoittautunut yli 60 teknologiaosaajaa eri puolilta maailmaa.

Junction 2019 - searching solutions on real life challenges
Varian is challenging tech pros to diminish doctors’ burden

Varian Medical Systems’ vision is a world without fear of cancer. The burden of cancer is growing in the world, but at the same time more efficient and diverse care is been developed. It’s only natural that Varian is one of the participants of one of the world’s best known hackathon “Junction 2019” in November.

During the weekend (November 15th-17th ) talented teams round the world gather to find technical solutions to the problems presented by companies.

Future designers, developers and programmers solving the challenge

Over 60 tech pros from all over the world have signed up to the Varian pre-event. The challenge is about how to help doctors be more efficient. Every day doctors make countless decisions about what kind of treatment the patient will be given. The aim of this challenge is to help them make the decisions easier, faster and more reliably.

Every radiotherapy is planned individually for a patient. Often the it is a physicist who makes the plan with help of a 3D picture of the patient. There are two essential things that can be seen in the picture: the area that needs to be treated and the critical organs that should be protected from the radiation. Before the patient can be treated, the plan must be approved by a doctor.

Technology brings efficiency to doctor’s work

Making the cooperation of the doctor and physicist better is the task that Varian presents to the participants of Junction 2019 -hackathon. It is often a difficult job for a doctor trying to get to a workstation to approve the plan with among other things that must be considered in the treatment. The workstation may exist in a different part of the hospital or even in another town as the doctor.

The aim is to use technology to develop the treatment chain in a way, that doctors can work more efficiently when planning the treatment. This way they would have time to treat more people.

Varian Medical Systems is a global health technology company. In Finland is our development unit for treatment planning systems. In Helsinki we employ 250 people from over 20 countries. Most of them work as experts like designers, developers, mathematicians, automation testers, user interface planners and QA-testers. We are continuously hiring new experts.
