Varian Medical Systems Schedules Meeting And Webcast For Fiscal 2002 Year-End Review

Palo Alto, Calif. - November 12, 2002 - Varian Medical Systems(NYSE:VAR) has scheduled a meeting and webcast at 4 p.m. Eastern Time this
Thursday, November 14 for management presentations on fiscal year 2002 and a
special talk by Dr. Theodore Lawrence of the University of Michigan on how
intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) can be used to improve future
cancer treatments.

Richard M. Levy, President and CEO of Varian Medical Systems, will
discuss the company and its performance in the fiscal year 2002; and Elisha W.
Finney, Vice President and CFO, will provide a financial overview of the
year.  Timothy E. Guertin, Executive Vice President and President of
Varian's Oncology Systems business, will discuss market conditions, product
developments, and other factors contributing to the growth of the radiotherapy
business.

IMRT enables radiation oncologists to improve clinical outcomes by focusing
radiation beams precisely on tumors while sparing surrounding healthy
tissue.  Dr. Lawrence's talk, "Using IMRT To Expand the Role of Radiation
Therapy," will focus on the role of IMRT with chemotherapy and minimally
invasive surgery in the treatment of many types of cancer.

These presentations may be heard via a live audio webcast that can be accessed

presentation will be available three hours after the meeting.
