Internal Radiation Therapy (Brachytherapy)

Internal radiation therapy, or brachytherapy, treats cancer by placing tiny radioactive sources or seeds into the body, either directly into or next to the area requiring treatment. This enables clinicians to deliver a high dose of radiation with a minimal impact on the surrounding healthy tissue. Brachytherapy is generally an effective treatment option for many cancers of the prostate, cervix, endometrium, breast, skin, bronchus, oesophagus and head and neck, as well as soft-tissue sarcomas and other cancer types. Varian produces a full range of brachytherapy products, including afterloaders, applicators and treatment-planning software.

HDR

HDR

High-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy uses a relatively intense source of radiation delivered through temporarily-placed applicators.
LDR

LDR

Low-dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy uses permanent seed implants about the size of a grain of rice to treat early stage prostate cancer.
IGBT
Image-Guided Brachytherapy (IGBT) combines advanced imaging techniques with advanced brachytherapy procedures allowing doctors to treat patients quickly and precisely.
PDR

PDR

Pulsed-Dose Rate (PDR) brachytherapy offers the advantages of radiation safety, prospective planning, and precise dose shaping.
