Palo Alto, Calif. - July 25, 2002 — Varian Medical Systems(NYSE:VAR) today reported net earnings of $22.8 million ($0.32 per diluted share) for the third quarter of fiscal 2002 versus net earnings of $17.4 million ($0.25 per diluted share) in the year-ago quarter. Sales for the quarter totaled $216 million, up 16 percent from the same period of the last fiscal year. Net orders for the quarter were $250 million, up 17 percent from the prior-year period, with growth in both major business segments.
