Varian Medical Systems and Its Employees Donate $376,000 to American Red Cross Relief Efforts

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct 15, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE:VAR) and its employees are donating $376,000 to the American Red Cross for relief efforts to aid victims of the tragic events that occurred on September 11. The money was raised through a unique program that combined a $100,000 corporate gift as well as $110,000 in employee donations that qualified for another $166,000 in matching gifts from the company. More than 800 of the company's employees joined the effort.

"When disaster struck in New York, people at Varian Medical Systems' offices around the world, like so many others, wanted to do something," said Richard M. Levy, president and CEO of Varian Medical Systems. "We were hearing from our teams in Europe, Asia, and Latin America as well as the U.S. So we put our heads together and came up with a program that would help us to do something together, as a company.
