Important ASTRO Information

Varian Medical Systems has enjoyed hosting an annual party at ASTRO for many years. It has always been tremendous fun and we know how much people look forward to it—including all of us here at Varian. However, in recognition of the recent enactment of state laws regulating relationships between vendors and customers (the "sunshine laws"), we are shifting our priorities. In lieu of a party this year, we are increasing our contributions to educational activities and research that will benefit radiation oncology professionals and benefit the lives of patients.

Funding education and research is more important than ever due to the current tough economic environment. In particular, the radiation oncology community has been asked to demonstrate the comparative effectiveness of radiation in the fight against cancer. To that end, Varian is contributing $2 million to the Radiation Oncology Institute and several other research programs to fund clinical studies. We appreciate your understanding and support of this important decision.
