Portal Vision – dosimetry and imaging

Portal Dosimetry - Fast convenient IMRT QA
Can I verify my treatment plans?

Portal Vision – dosimetry and imaging

Portal Dosimetry (standard on the Trilogy™ system, optional on other Clinac® models) allows you to compare PortalVision™ acquired dose images generated by intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) irradiation to two portal dose2 images predicated by the treatment planning system.

With the Varian® Portal Dosimetry feature, clinicians can quickly verify that the planned dose is the dose delivered.

Use Portal Dosimetry to compare an electronic relative dose image from Varian's PortalVision to a predicted portal dose image calculated by Varian's Eclipse™ treatment planning system. In an instant, you see quantitative comparisons of the two images, including dose difference, gamma analysis, point dose measurements, and line profiles.

Reduce the time spent on IMRT QA by as much as 80 percent with Varian's Portal Dosimetry. Portal Dosimetry allows you to compare PortalVision-acquired dose images generated by IMRT irradiation to portal dose images predicted by the treatment planning system.

Clinical Features:
  • Quickly verify that the dose you plan is the dose you deliver.
  • Higher density of data points for pretreatment IMRT QA - significantly more than is possible with special purpose measurement devices.
  • Automated electronic tools means no need for film processing.
  • Treat more IMRT patients by automating and simplifying pretreatment QA.
  • Fast and efficient process of acquisition due to tools such as Auto Field Sequencing and ARIA™ oncology information system.
  • Quick and automated evaluation process, with several different evaluation methods available.
  • Comparison tools can be run on the Clinac console or at the physicist's desk.
  • Portal Dosimetry may also be used for periodic tests on machine QA.
  • Dose prediction from third-party planning systems is supported via DIROM radiation therapy.
  • Segmental and Dynamic IMRT treatment supported.
Process:
  1. An IMRT plan is generated in the Eclipse integrated treatment planning system.
  2. Eclipse calculates the dose deposited on the imager from any Dynamic IMRT treatment field to achieve the predicted dose.
  3. The IMRT plan is delivered and PortalVision acquires an integrated image of this IMRT field to be analyzed.
  4. PortalVision converts the IMRT-integrated image into a digital dose matrix for electronic analysis.
  5. Advanced analysis tools compare the acquired dose with the predicted dose.
  6. Dose differences are quickly calculated using both the dose difference and the spatial relationship to evaluate the degree of conformity.
