The ARIA oncology information system uses Health Level Seven (HL7) and DICOM standard communication protocols to transfer data within and outside the oncology practice – making your department an integrated part of the broader healthcare system.
Varian is an active participant in the information technology community, and participates in Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) and National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) initiatives. IHE and NEMA are independent initiatives that aimed at reducing medical errors by promoting industry standards for data integration and exchange across healthcare systems.
Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM®) is a standard protocol for exchanging images and data between healthcare systems. ARIA's support for DICOM (including RT and ION extensions) enables users to exchange images, treatment plan and history data with other DICOM-compliant systems. This open-standards approach gives you the flexibility to use ARIA with non-Varian linear accelerators, simulators and treatment planning systems, as well as with enterprise PACS.
Information Exchange Manager (IEM) is the core of ARIA's HL7 connectivity solution. The IEM interface engine uses standard HL7 interfaces to exchange patient data with the hospital information system and ancillary departments such as pathology, radiology, pharmacy and laboratory. In addition to standard interface configurations, Varian's interface analysts can work with you to design customized, non-HL7 interfaces to ensure connectivity to enterprise systems.
