Acuity - Clinical Solutions

Acuity provides the capabilities to perform basic simulation, emergency planning and verification of complex plans before treatment delivery.

The benefit of using Acuity is the ability to quickly compare the plan against real time, actual, internal organ movement using live fluoroscopy.

PLANNING

Simple 2D planning and simulation in one place

When emergency patients need to be planned quickly and go straight for treatment it would be more efficient to do this in one place.

Verification of patient plans would be easier if the 3D plan and images were available at the time of verification.

Clinical benefits
  • The simple 2D planning module, from Eclipse, enables you to plan simple treatment techniques for palliative or emergency patients.
  • Wedges, blocks or MLC's can be incorporated in the plan.
  • The process of simulation and planning takes place efficiently in one place, on Acuity. The patient is then ready to start treatment.
  • Eclipse users will be familiar with the user interface reducing the need for significant additional training.
  • Eclipse SV on Acuity provides all the 3D image data and dose information to completely review the plan.
  • Any small changes can be made in Eclipse before treatment.

SIMULATION

Simulation is a complex process with a nervous patient wanting to ask questions about what is going to happen to them. Automation of the simulation process enables the operator to focus on the patient. The better the image quality, the quicker the process is, and the more useful the reference image is for treatment verification. Accuracy is of prime importance to produce a prescription that can be accurately repeated during treatment.

  • Acuity has a fixed FSD at 100cm which enables the tightest isocenter specification to be achieved.
  • Patients to be treated at 80cm can be simulated using the 80cm mode available on Acuity.
  • Simulation times and dose have been reduced by Image Controlled Simulation.
  • Three modes of imaging enable the operator to use the appropriate dose to view anatomy and acquire a high quality reference image.

Image Controlled simulation enables you to accurately and quickly position fields directly from the image using drag-and-drop field wires, collimator rotation and couch position. Acuity immediately moves to the new position for re-imaging. This capability has significantly reduced simulation times and dose to the patient.

With a high frame-rate, real patient movement can be viewed during pulsed fluoroscopy. To acquire high quality reference images, users can choose either the digital rad mode which offers single and dual pulse modes with half or full resolution, or the high mAs mode.

VERIFICATION

Verifying treatment plans with pinpoint accuracy.

Acuity produces a high quality reference 2D or 3D image for daily verification, freeing treatment machines for patient treatment and helping to increase patient throughput.

Automated tools enable the comparison of images and then automatically move the patient into the correct position prior to reviewing the plan. Automatic download features accurately position the machine to the planned field position without any manual set up.

Couch parameters are automatically copied into the plan completing the prescription.

The images acquired on Acuity are then used as high quality reference images to compare to images acquired during treatment, including those from the on-board imager (OBI).
