Proton Therapy

The use of proton therapy to treat cancerous tumors is a major technological advance of our time. After decades of development, its success is rapidly driving proton therapy out of research facilities and into regional treatment centers around the world.

Proton therapy uses beams of positively charged nuclear particles, rather than conventional photon beams. The energy of proton beams can be precisely targeted to deliver highly focused doses in the tumor, potentially sparing healthy surrounding tissue with possibly fewer side effects.

Varian draws on decades of research and development in radiation therapy techniques to offer the Varian ProBeam™ proton therapy system. This unique solution features capabilities similar to those found in the Varian TrueBeam™ system for radiotherapy and the TrueBeam STx™ for radiosurgery.

Our Dynamic Peak™ integrated scanning technology was specifically developed for pencil-beam scanning used in proton therapy. Varian ProBeam is a fully integrated system that combines many of the advanced capabilities available for oncology. Additional features make it a solid platform for the future:
