Active Scanning with Dynamic Peak™ Treatment Delivery
Varian Dynamic Peak™ treatment delivery is based on the active scanning technique. It accommodates all scanning options by:
- Offering a large field size of 30x40cm
- Delivering a 2 Gy per liter per minute dose
This technique precisely controls the proton beam using magnets in the treatment nozzle to steer the beam to the shape and size of the desired layer of the tumor target volume. As a result:
- Treatment does not require a custom-milled compensator and heavy brass apertures
- Cost and complexity of the clinical workflow is reduced
- The risk associated with neutron radiation exposure via specific patient devices is practically eliminated
