Introduction: Varian's search for new technologies in radiation therapy spans over five continents with 100 active research projects—ranging from robotic, image-guided delivery to sophisticated applications of radiobiology—to deliver a steady stream of innovative new products that enhance cancer care.

Links with partners in academia and industry strengthen our position at the leading edge of science and technology by providing access to thought leaders, novel R&D tools, and key data on emerging trends.

A half century ago, Varian pioneered the mass production of high-energy medical linear accelerators, ushering in the modern radiotherapy era. Now, scientists and engineers at Varian collaborate with research partners around the world, marching forward on the quest to improve cancer care with the same pioneering spirit.

Mission: As part of Varian's mission to save 100,000 more lives each year, we support research projects that create intellectual property, improve product features and capabilities, and expand our knowledge base.

Application Process: To apply, please complete a grant application form. Applications may be submitted year-round. Note that all information supplied on the form is kept confidential.

A Grant Review Committee meets regularly to discuss proposals. Funding is competitive. Elements of a successful proposal include: a strong, detailed research plan with clear milestones and deliverables, potential for creating intellectual property, and alignment to Varian's core business interests.

If approved, you will receive a Research Agreement that details the terms of the award, including the handling of intellectual property, responsibility on clinical matters, confidentiality, project budget, payment schedule, requirements for progress reports, etc.

For education grants, support of appropriate medical seminars and symposia, scholarships programs and charitable grants, please see Corporate Giving.
