Benefits of Radiosurgery
Radiosurgery can be an effective treatment option for patients who, for some reason, cannot receive conventional radiation therapy. Radiosurgery may also be used as a first line of treatment for specific cases. Patients who are prescribed radiosurgery can be treated within one to five days and as an outpatient – meaning they are not required to stay in the hospital for recovery. Typically, the patient can return to his or her normal lifestyle the day following treatment.
Radiosurgery can be used to treat several types of cancers, alone or in combination with other treatments. It can be used...
- As the first line of treatment to treat a tumor
- As a palliative treatment when curing the cancer is not possible. (Palliative radiation therapy is intended to relieve pain, pressure and other symptoms by shrinking the tumor.)
- In combination with chemotherapy treatment.
